What are low competition Etsy niches?
Low competition Etsy niches are basically digital or physical products that do not have a lot of competition, which might make it easier for these products to sell. However, it’s important to pay attention if these products are high in-demand.
Low competition niches doesn’t equate to high demand niches.
What are high demand Etsy niches?
High demand Etsy niches are products that are popular and competitive because buyers are interested in these products. Naturally, high demand Etsy niches will have more competition. This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to find low competition niches that are high demand.
In this post, I’ll teach you how to find low competition Etsy niches that are high demand.
Best Tips to Discover Low Competition and High Demand Niches on Etsy
So let’s jump into the best tips on how you can start your Etsy feeling more confident about your shop and the niches you can explore 🙂
Tip 1: Look at Etsy’s trends
It’s really important to pay attention to Etsy’s trends.
Every month or so, Etsy will send a trend report such as this guide to Etsy’s shopping trends or this insight into summer trends for Etsy sellers to analyze and see what is trending on its platform!
This is GOLD because you can find products to create based on what is trending and high demand. Every now and then, Etsy will send an email (make sure to subscribe to their newsletter for the latest updates!) to its Etsy sellers about tips and trends you can follow.
Especially when the holidays come around, you can expect Etsy to send a newsletter about its trends such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother’s Day, and other holidays.
Because I’m in the digital niche, I look at Etsy’s trend report for wall decor to see what people are searching. This way, you’ll be able to find low competition and high demand niches on Etsy.
Usually, Etsy will provide search words buyers are looking up on its platform. This allows me to figure out what kind of details or products to create in the future.
Tip 2: Look at the # of search results for products
Whenever you search up a term on Etsy, on the right side, there will always be the number of results. This gives you a general idea of how many people are searching up this particular key word.
Below is an example. I searched up the phrase “tree of life wall art” and around 65,000 results popped up!
That means this is a great, competitive popular product/niche that you can consider.
A safe range for a high demand, but low competition niche is to make sure that your results are at least above 10,000 results.
If it’s above 500,000 results, it’s going to be really competitive and hard to rank.
So I’d say a good range is 5,000-20,000 results for whatever key terms you are searching up. An Etsy keyword that has around 5,000-10,000 results is a high demand, low competition niche to delve into.
Tip 3: Pay attention to Etsy reviews
Another great way to find low competition niches is to look at Etsy reviews.
You want to look at a competitor’s store that has a lot of reviews because chances are despite how many awesome reviews they have, there are also bound to be some less favorable reviews.
I would recommend looking at their lowest ratings and seeing what are buyers and customers saying about the product. When a customer gives a low rating, it’s because their expectations weren’t met with the product they received.
So, this is great news for you, haha.
Keep note of what is selling and see if you can make yours even better than what your competitors are selling.
But please remember, DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. Do not copy someone’s work as your own. Copyright infringement is a real thing, and Etsy stores can file a copyright infringement against you. Worse case scenario, Etsy can close your shop without your consent.
Tip 4: Find popular keywords on Etsy
Make sure that the keywords that you use are searchable and popular. Just like how Google shows what people are searching for, Etsy also does.
Here are some examples shown below:
So if you just type in ‘cat decor for,’ you are able to see the most popular keywords for this specific niche which is cat decor.
This shows you what people are looking for in this particular niche! It’s popular enough and the competition is on the lower end. You can see on the bottom right that there are almost 500,000 results, which is GREAT as a low competition and high demand Etsy niche!
Here’s another example:
I typed in candles holders, so if you are looking into creating physical products, these are great ideas. There are many different keywords that pop up for candles holders, so that gives you more ideas for future products.
This is also a very specific niche and would be a great Etsy product to create!
I hope finding keywords on Etsy makes more sense. It really is simple. Once you find a niche you want to try, you can start typing in the niche and see what keywords pop up.
Tip 5: Look at your competitors’ stores
You can learn a lot from other Etsy stores that have been around for a while. They’ve gone through the trials of knowing what works and what doesn’t for their stores.
If you’ve decided what niche you want to go towards, I’d recommend looking and browsing through 2-3 successful Etsy stores.
Etsy has a function on its platform that allows you to look at what products a shop has sold.
You can click on how many sales the Etsy seller has made and see what is bestselling.
Sometimes, you’ll notice a pattern in customers’ behaviors to see which is a best-seller.
Although I notice that a lot of Etsy stores do disable this function because they don’t want people copying their products or knowing what sells. But that makes sense from a seller’s point of view.
I’ve also noticed that newer Etsy stores that have a good amount of sales like 1,000 – 5,000 sales do keep this function on. I’d recommend checking out and seeing what products keep selling.
This will help you get a sense of what products you can create that has a chance of ranking higher and getting sales.
